Daniel Richardson, Head Chef at Hartwell House scoops Award from Buckinghamshire Lifelong Learning Partnership
Daniel Richardson (31) who has been a chef for the last fifteen years - four of which as head chef at Hartwell House Hotel, Restaurant and Spa - has been working closely with Buckinghamshire Lifelong Learning Awards as part of the 'adopt a school' scheme. The scheme is supported by The Academy of Culinary Arts which is pushing for food and cookery to be brought back onto the school curriculum.
Daniel currently volunteers at two Buckinghamshire schools, where he gives his time to talk and teach young people (aged 12-16) about 'real' food, and provides mentoring and work experience opportunities.
Since he started mentoring, he has had a number of students coming into his kitchen at Hartwell house to gain work experience. One of the students who has been working with Daniel for the last 4 years and is now aged 19, is moving on to the kitchens at The Vineyard in order to learn other cooking skills.
The Award was given to Daniel at The Latimer Conference Centre near Chesham on Friday 9 July 2004.
Daniel said "I have been a chef for over 15 years and am passionate about food, if I can inspire other young people into the business I will feel truly satisfied."
